It’s Weenie Wednesday my dudes. How you doooin’?

If you didn’t get a chance to read my review of Jamie Loftus’ book, Raw Dog, then this post will most likely confuse you. The Tube Steak Tour is a once-in-a-while edition of The Rally Towel where I talk about the best hot dogs I come across.

We’re starting this tour at Super Duper Weenie. This place is the absolute G.O.A.T. of the Fairfield County hot dog game and has a name that will never not make me laugh. Imagine being 16 and driving home from a baseball game with your teammates and seeing signage for Super Duper Weenie on the side of I-95 in Fairfield? My wife does not share a similar enthusiasm for these jokes, but such is life.

Super Duper Weenie began as a hot dog truck in 1992, but their stand on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield, Connecticut has been a lunch staple since it opened in 2000. Guy Fieri himself gave their “New Englander” hot dog his stamp of approval in a 2007 episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

I have a confession to make. I am a heathen who slathers his hot dogs in ketchup. While some may consider this an undignified way to live, I do have the self-respect to only put ketchup on my weenie at home. Due to the bun situation, hot dogs are better with wet ingredients, and my go-to hot dog topping is chili. When I stopped at Super Duper, I ordered The Californian. This dog features a split and grilled weenie on a toasted bun topped with meat chili, fresh chopped onion, American cheese, and hot relish.

I also want to mention that these guys make some of the best french fries on the planet. These shoestring fries are cut fresh in store, perfectly fried, and generously seasoned with salt and pepper. If you’re in the area, then Super Duper Weenie is well worth the stop.

Where should the tour stop next?
