Welcome back to Mets Laundry. I hope everyone had a chance to dry off after the Speedway Classic. I wasn’t even in attendance, and my dang sneakers are still squishy.
The New York Mets have a new prop to celebrate with. Players aren’t posing with a flip-flop after hitting a home run because they’ve won a trip to a beach resort (although they may be heading to Cancun in early October if they don’t start hitting); they’re posing with a chancla. For the gringos in attendance, a chancla is a sandal, slipper, or flip-flop. The chancla is an item that might meet your behind if you are misbehaving or in need of punishment. So players have been celebrating with the chancla after punishing the baseball or the pitcher who threw it.
Earlier this year, we litigated if a baseball cap was an article of laundry. Is a chancla laundry? I’m too tired for another gimmick, so I’m deferring to our AI Overlord:

The Mets wore a commemorative patch on their hat during David Wright’s Mets Hall of Fame induction. Unfortunately, they couldn’t come away with a win in the Captain’s honor.
Teams around the league wore retro caps featuring the National Baseball Hall of Fame patches to coincide with the induction of the Class of 2025. Some fans may not have noticed, but our caps had the OG blue buttons on top and a green under-visor. Former New York Met, Billy Wagner, entered the Hall as a Houston Astro, which is a helluva lot better than seeing him enshrined as a Philadelphia Philly. The Mets swept the San Francisco Giants during this weekend series.
Last week, these Diamond Hero caps dropped on various online shops. There was a lot of speculation that these would be worn during the upcoming Player’s Weekend celebration, but SportsLogos.net squashed those rumors. These hats have a lot going on, but some logos manage to look better than others. I won’t be buying this one.
The fellas came into today on a 5-game winning streak in their City Connect Uniforms, but were unable to extend the streak.
